The Owl

The Fourth Moon
of the Mayan Calendar is the moon of the Owl which begins
18th of October. The Mayans called the owl Moan, and to
them the Great Horned Owl was the most sacred. In Western astrology,
astrological signs are based upon constellations that we have made out
of stars. Mayans too did this but they saw different constellations
and divided their year by different date. The Owl moon stars during
our time in Libra and overlaps in to Scorpio. In the sky the saw a giant
owl, its head began just under Bootes and its feet touched
our constellation of Lupus. Its left wing touched Libra and its
right wing almost reached to Corvus.
The owl looks a little wonky to our eyes, as the Mayans were closer
to the equator and so the sky appeared different to us in the North.
The Owl is a powerful
symbol, feared and respected throughout the world and throughout time.
It has been around
for 60 million years and they are found on every continent and have
adapted to every type of climate. In many cultures owls are associated
with
witches and in many languages the same word is used for owl and witch.
Seen as messengers of spirit this has caused them to be feared.
The Mayans regarded
them highly for their wisdom and their ability to see in the dark. For
often the truth is hidden. Owls are also very powerful creatures with
sharp talons and beaks. People born under this moon will have a lot
of power although the do not often show it. For owls a rarely aggressive
and will only attack when their young are at threat. Owl people must
learn that true power comes from knowing when to use your strengths
and when to use the power of gentleness.
Timing is also a
characteristic of owls. The always know when to take action and when
to rest. This has been the secret of there success. Listen to your intuition
it will tell you when to act and when not to, that is the message from
the owl. Wisdom comes from within, the inner knowing that cannot be
gained by studying books and being academic. Do not confuse intelligence
with wisdom.
Your rational brain
has its uses but the intuitive side is the one that will lead you to
be as
wise as an owl.
SACRED CRYSTAL
FIRE OPAL
The information
about the constellations and crystals in this section come from an out
-of -print book by Hugh Harleston jnr. `Zodiac de Maya`.
This book was the only one ever printed that named the constellations
and they were based on his archelogical findings. The interpretation
of the meanings of the animals comes from T.O`Sinend, a teacher of animal
Totemnism and here on this website is the only place anywhere that this
information is available.
